Alice was born on November 4th, 2020 and diagnosed with AHC on February 3rd, 2021. Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) is a rare neurological disorder that affects one in a million children. AHC is characterized by attacks of paralysis, involuntary muscle spasms, uncontrollable eye movements, changes in muscle tone and sometimes seizures. This can last anywhere from a few minutes to days and can cause cognitive and physical impairment or delay. These episodes are usually triggered by the unavoidable -- bright lights, loud noises, crowds, extreme temperatures, temperature change, water exposure, phyisical activity, odors, foods, emotional response, medications, and fatigue.

AHC is often referred to as "7 disorders in one"--
Stroke, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's, ADHD, Autism, and Alzheimers.

There is currently no cure. AHCF is funding research to develop a cure, with enough funds we believe we can END AHC.

Join us on Sunday, October 3rd at Pella Christian High School for our first annual Race to End AHC. We will be participating with beautiful Estella Henderson and her family. The Race to End AHC supports the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation's annual fundraiser. This year AHCF has a goal of raising $125,000. Every dollar counts!

The Race to END AHC is on! For over 25 years, the AHC Foundation has been in the race to treat or cure AHC for all our AHC kids. It has been a long race, and the foundation has covered much ground by taking many steps toward that goal. 

Through research, education, and family support, we have ONE MISSION: END AHC.

Through these three pillars of our mission, the AHC Foundation works to provide our community support and hope as we all move through this journey. Funding RESEARCH from small studies to gene discovery, to collaboration on landmark gene therapy that holds much potential; providing EDUCATIONAL resources to families through support groups, introductions to physicians, and our website; SUPPORTING FAMILIES through our support group, biennial family meetings, and availability of volunteers for crisis; are all ways the AHC Foundation works to END AHC.
