Alice was born on November 4th, 2020 and diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) on February 3rd, 2021. 

Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood is a neurological disease that is often reffered as 
"7 disorders in one"-- stroke, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's, ADHD, autism, and Alzheimers.
Although the disorder is named "of childhood" those affected by AHC do not grow out of this disease. Alice has episodes, which can be triggered by environmental conditions, water exposure, physical activities, lights, foods, emotional responses, odors, fatigue and medications. These episodes can last anywhere from a few minutes to multiple days with no relief other than during sleep, but as soon as she wakes up the episode returns within minutes. While in an episode Alice can go from being partially or fully paralyzed to experiencing extreme dystonia, which is where her entire body will stiffen and it is extremely painful for her. Depending on the severity of the episode there is always a chance she can experience massive cognitive setbacks, because of this we are constantly worried if we're going to get the same happy, fun-loving girl back. In rare cases, children have died unexpectedly in circumstances similar to sudden death reported in patients with epilepsy. Scientists at Harvard, Duke, Northwestern University, UT Southwestern and Vanderbilt are on the cusp of getting Gene Therapy and Gene Editing to a stage that can essentially make AHC a thing of the past.

Currently there is no cure for this awful life altering disorder, but with your help and generosity there is HOPE. We are hosting an event in collaboration with the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation (AHCF) to raise funds for research to provide a viable cure to all warriors fighting AHC.

Our event will be held on October 2nd in Altoona, Iowa. The day will start at Lion's Park and will include a 5k awareness walk, slowpitch softball tournament, and silent auction. Once those events are wrapped up we will gather at Hawk Heaven Tavern for a bags tournament, 50/50 raffle, and live music! 

We are kindly seeking a $500 sponsorship donation or items for the silent auction. Your sponsorship will be promoted on the event flyer, which will include your business name. You or representatives of your company are welcome to attend the event to post signage or advertising around Lion's Park. If you are unable to make a sponsorship level donation ANYTHING can help. It is imperative we express urgency in our attempt to receive donations and acquire the funds needed to push Gene Therapy to clinical trials. The longer these children have episodes, the greater the chance of irreversible damage.
