We are racing for a cure for Belle.

Our beautiful, resilient daughter Belle is 5 years old and has AHC. We are racing to find a cure for her and all the others like her. Belle loves to do ballet and play barbies when she is not experiencing the painful episodes of AHC. She recently performed in her dance classes recital and had an amazing time. We are wanting to find a way for Belle to have more Good days than bad.

Belle was first misdiagnosed at 3 months old with epilepsy like many other families in our AHC community. Test after test we were left with no answers. Medication after medication, no answers. At 18 months, we finally got an answer, Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood. I remember this day like it was yesterday. I thought WOOHOO finally an ANSWER. Then, I remember reading the article our Dr sent over and becoming overwhelmed with emotions by reading everything I had been saying to Drs and being dismissed. It  was ALL there, like they had written it specifically for her. Then, I realized there isn't a cure, there isn't a treatment. We are in a world so unknown. 1 in 1 million, we knew she was amazing and special and so unique but never thought this. Where do we go from here? Fast forward to now, Belle is in Kindergarten and loving school. She enjoys spending time with her new friends and learning new things. We have our good days, and our bad days. Our UPs and our Downs. But, through it all Belle has always had the best smile, and the best attitude no matter what challenges are given to her.

The Race to END AHC is on! For over 25 years, the AHC Foundation has been in the race to treat or cure AHC for all our AHC kids. It has been a long race, and the foundation has covered much ground by taking many steps toward that goal. 

Through research, education, and family support, we have ONE MISSION: END AHC.

Through these three pillars of our mission, the AHC Foundation works to provide our community support and hope as we all move through this journey. Funding RESEARCH from small studies to gene discovery, to collaboration on landmark gene therapy that holds much potential; providing EDUCATIONAL resources to families through support groups, introductions to physicians, and our website; SUPPORTING FAMILIES through our support group, biennial family meetings, and availability of volunteers for crisis; are all ways the AHC Foundation works to END AHC.
